At High and Main Productions, we are excited to be a community-driven theatre company in rural Eastern Ontario, based in Vankleek Hill.
Why is this so exciting? You don’t need a theatre background to join — only a love for theatre. We believe theatre is strongest when people feel invited to participate, learn, and grow. High and Main Productions welcomes people to explore whichever aspects of theatre production best suit their interests and skills.
Here’s an example. Lorraine Crowston answered a casting call and auditioned for a part in Overtones by Alice Gerstenberg. She was cast as Margaret. In fact, not only did she get the part, but through unexpected circumstances, Lorraine volunteered to direct The Zoo Story by Edward Albee. Here’s what she has to say about her experience.
“I joined High and Main Productions because I always wanted to be in a play. I got my chance to ‘walk the boards’ when I portrayed Margaret in Overtones.
I’ll admit, there were times when I had to ask what people meant when they used ‘theatre’ jargon. Everyone was kind, helpful, and patient when answering my questions.
They were all wonderful!
What I didn’t expect was to discover the joy in directing. It was an interesting journey; from watching the actor’s early reads to developing the subtleties required to fully portray the inner thoughts and feelings of the characters. I found the way to bring this out of the actors and truly rejoiced in seeing their portrayals go from flat to rich and emotional. Once again, whenever I was unsure, there was always someone ready to offer support, and advice that was invaluable to me as a first-time director.”

Members can participate in productions and have a vote in the annual general meeting in the spring. Memberships are 25 dollars annually and will auto-renew until cancelled however if price is a barrier please follow the instructions for a waived fee membership.
